Today we would like to
put Andrew, one of our young talents in the spotlight.
Andrew joined us after finishing his degree in
Mechatronic & Robotics at the University of Leeds and has been working as a
Process Engineer within IPS UK for a little over 2 years, including 18 months
in the Aalberts trainee programme.
“I chose the Aalberts trainee programme as I was well
aware of the Pegler brand, its history and its importance to the local area. As
I started to do more research into Aalberts and the trainee programme I saw a
great opportunity for me to be able to live & work in different countries
and at different sites. I believed these prospects would provide me with a
great starting point in my career whilst offering unique experiences &
opportunities.”
Andrew tells us a little about his diverse responsibilities
at the company; “My day to day at IPS involves maintaining and improving
manufacturing & assembly processes in the Heating and Gas valves
departments. This involves spending a fair amount of time on the shop floor
with the operators to find out what their thoughts on the processes are and how
they believe they could be improved. In the past 6 months or so I have also
been involved in the Seppelfricke transfer project specifically, the
implementation and improvements on the gas valve assembly area.”
Working at Aalberts always provides Andrew with new
and interesting challenges where every day is different. “It causes you to have
to constantly think on your feet forcing to solve new and different problems. Getting
the opportunity to solve problems is what provides me with the most
satisfaction. If I had to describe Aalberts in just 1 word, it would definitely
be ‘Thought-provoking’.
Even though Andrew has already finished his Traineeship,
he is definitely not done learning. “In the future months I would like to
complete some training courses specifically the Sigma Six Green Belt and a PLC
programming course to further my development as an engineer.”
Of course Andrew also
makes sure he puts time aside to unwind. “In my free time I like to spend most
of my time either playing or watching various sports but mainly football. I
also enjoy socialising with friends at the pub.”
